SPRING.  A PASTORAL.
When wasting winter's rage had pass'd away,
And smiling spring resum'd her gentle sway,
Along the borders of a silver stream
A careless muse indulg'd a rural theme;
The native beauties of the plains she sung,
While mountains echo'd, and vallies rung.
. . . [3 lines]
Next to our Prince, accept the sylvan songs.
. . . [21 lines]
While we of love and beauty's season sing.
. . . [36 lines follow of dialogue in verse, then]
What youth is he that yonder comes alone?
To him I'll leave the trial of our song;
. . . [14 lines follow of dialogue in verse.]
